Before the pandemic, I practiced exclusively in my San Francisco office. During the pandemic, I had only two sessions in my office, the rest were remote. I have discovered that remote sessions serve me and my analysands and the analytic process well, at least as well as in-person sessions do. Among the added advantages are: no exposure to COVID or other pathogens, no waste of time or money commuting. I have experienced an unexpected benefit from COVID: I could embrace my deeper introverted nature without incurring serious social or professional disapproval. My analysands also appreciate this arrangement. And the analytic process seems unperturbed. Of course, if future research findings contradict my current position, I will revert to my earlier practice of seeing my analysands in person. New technology, far UVC lamps, can safely kill COVID and other pathogens in any office.
