Joel Crichton

Joel is a Jungian Analyst (candidate) with the C.G. Jung Institute of Zürich, living and working in Victoria, Canada. He brings a diversity of experience to his analytical practice, having worked in the arts, as an educator, for government, as an entrepreneur and as a sailor.

For him, analysis is led by the patient. He sees it as a process of navigating the many tense contradictions of life, for example between individuation and adaptation, or between the need for inner truth and the demand to meet the outside world.

He works in a way that is relational, collaborative, and insight-based, working to recognize, understand, and when necessary challenge the deeper patterns that underlie the patient’s life. He focuses not only on integrating myth and dream into one’s life (and vice versa), but also on clinically effective ways of helping change happen.

He is experienced in working with a breadth of issues, from anxiety, depression and obsession to personality disorders, complex family-of-origin trauma, and spiritual concerns.

A former actor, playwright, and musician, he has a deep appreciation for the creative process and its necessities.

Some current interests include personality typology, literature and martial arts. He has given lecture presentations on the archetypal and complex aspects of gaming, and been published by Jung Journal and Quadrant. His current writing, supported by an endowment from the Kristine Mann Library (New York), is focused on Shakespeare. Visit his website for more information.
